Rabbit Warren Street

Location: Fitzrovia
Date: 2024
Status: Temporary
Client: The Fitzrovia Partnership

In December 2023, the LFA and The Fitzrovia Partnership launched a competition calling for architects, artists and designers to reimagine the pedestrian area outside Warren Street Station, signposting key destinations in Fitzrovia and promoting the use of safer and cleaner streets.

The winning ‘Rabbit Warren Street’ design concept was conceived by local architects Able Partners, collaborating with engineers from Fitzrovia-based Elliott Wood, and selected by an expert judging panel from over 40 unique submissions.

Through a playful mural and sculptural installations, the intervention invited members of the public into Fitzrovia, navigating a less-trodden path with a map handout that signposted local businesses around the area. To celebrate the project’s launch, a temporary road closure on 6th and 7th June provided spaces of play and rest for members of the public, with a series of family activations and local business stalls showcasing Fitzrovia’s unique collaborative nature.

Playful design elements included a colourful mural and large rabbit and carrot sculptures that drew the attention of passers-by on Tottenham Court Road, encouraging the public to explore Fitzrovia.

The installation acted as a focus point for around 30 diverse events taking place in Fitzrovia across the month of June, including walking tours, workshops, family events and panel discussions.
