The workshop explores the perceptual analysis of what can be defined as urban soundscapes—the acoustic dimensions of the city that shape our experience of place. In line with the 2025 LFA theme “Voices”, it examines how architecture is about creating and listening to, amplifying, and intertwining the diverse voices that define our spaces and communities.
The workshop is structured in three phases:
Sound Sampling – Participants will collect sound recordings in selected areas of central London, chosen based on thematic criteria such as inclusion/estrangement, sonority/noise, stillness/frenzy.
Interpretation – The collected material will be interpreted through the correlation of sounds and visual elements: photographs, drawings, sketches, and historical or iconic representations.
Recomposition – The final phase will involve the creation of short video narratives that visually translate and communicate the acoustic identity of each site.
The workshop is open to a maximum of 20 participants, working individually or in small groups, under the guidance of faculty members from the University of Genoa throughout both the preparatory and production phases.
